DETROIT – Ford engine will partner with You’re here on several charging initiatives for its current and future electric vehicles in an unusual rapprochement between the two rivals, the automakers’ CEOs announced on Thursday.
The deal sees current Ford owners gain access to 50% of Tesla’s coveted network of superchargers, followed by Ford’s next generation of electric vehicles expected to include Tesla’s charging socket by mid-decade . The design will allow vehicle owners to charge Tesla superchargers without an adapter, making Ford the first to do so.

The initiatives were announced by Ford CEO Jim Farley and Tesla CEO Elon Musk during a live audio chat on Twitter, which Musk currently leads. The CEOs announced the surprise chat earlier in the afternoon.
